Historical Significance
Founded in 1846 in Le Locle, Switzerland, Ulysse Nardin gained fame for its marine chronometers, essential instruments for navigation during the 19th and early 20th centuries. By the mid-20th century, the company had diversified its offerings, crafting timepieces that blended precision, luxury, and innovation. The Ref. 7536-2 emerged during this transformative era, exemplifying the brand's commitment to technical excellence and timeless design.
The tropical dial, a defining feature of certain vintage watches, adds an additional layer of historical and aesthetic intrigue. This phenomenon occurs when a watch's dial, originally designed in a specific color (often black), ages over decades due to exposure to sunlight, humidity, and other environmental factors. The result is a rich, uneven patina that transforms the dial into shades of brown, creating a distinctive and organic aesthetic. Far from being a flaw, this transformation is celebrated in the watch-collecting world, as each tropical dial is unique, telling a story of time and wear.
The tropical dial on the present example Ref. 7536-2 reflects the evolution of materials
