Explorer 1016 Tropical Brown Dial
A truly amazing example of a Tropical 1016 type 6 gilt dial ( the photos don't even do it justice) . The dial is virtually perfect and the hands match the luminous perfectly as well. The case has been polished in the past and the serial and reference numbers are fully visible. The watch is accompanied by a rivet bracelet with 12 links. Movement is running well and keeping excellent time and was serviced in the last 6 months.
model notes:
The Rolex Explorer 1016 with a "gilt dial" is a highly sought-after variation of this iconic watch model. The term "gilt dial" refers to a specific type of dial used in vintage Rolex watches, characterized by gold text and markers printed on a glossy black background. A "Tropical Dial" refers to a phenomenon that can occur on vintage watches where the original black dial fades or changes color due to exposure to sunlight and other environmental factors. The gilt dials were produced during the early production years of the Rolex Explorer 1016, typically in the 1960s and early 1970s. These dials are highly valued by collectors due to their aesthetic appeal and rarity.
The gilt dials were eventually replaced by the matte dials, which featured white text and markers on a matte black surface. While both versions are considered desirable, the gilt dials often command higher prices in the vintage watch market.
